".....The narrative found within this group of work presents another story. It locates the ways in which each subject finds their agency and mobility within relationships, and consequently, a sense of self. The pieces present in this exhibition combine text and image, fiction and non-fiction, literal illustration and loose representation. Drawing from botanical and anatomical figurations, these images aim to illustrate the reciprocity of fragility and strength, inside and outside, and the body as a site of vulnerability........ Much like the language of my subjects, the texts found in these works are ambiguous, coded. The language of botanical and anatomical studies links subjects 1-5 to this unexpected imagery, pointing to the specifics of their hearts. One enters the work, decodes, and interprets these testimonies of calculated vulnerability that in effect, become not about 5 specific people, but about all of us.... ...... The work addresses positions both of objectivity and subjectivity, the dissector and the dissected." |
